Wendy Gloss: Parent to Volunteer to Interpreter

Wendy Gloss, Columbia Opportunities’ Family Program Interpreter and 20-year presence in our lives, just celebrated a big birthday. Wendy is such a positive presence here, we thought that you would enjoy getting to know her. (Spanish translation below.)

¡Reina Wendy!

Question. Congratulations on your significant birthday! What have you done to celebrate 50 years and how has that included Columbia Opportunities.

Wendy. Since life is too short, I decided that for my 50th Birthday celebration. for the whole year, I will be trying to meet up with all those people who have made an impact and provided life lessons in my life.  My plan has been to meet up with friends and family to enjoy adventures like cruises, day trips, a meal, coffee or tea, and take selfies to commemorate the occasion as well to thank them for being part of my life's journey.

For 20 years, COI has been a big part of my life. I have met amazing people that have taught me many things and we have created great memories and moments for a lifetime. I am truly blessed and thankful for all my COI family. I am a lucky girl to have been and continue to be part of the COI Team making a difference in our Community .

Q. You have such a positive outlook on life - how does that play into what you do for the community?

W. I look at life like a blessing and every day is new opportunity to learn and do better regardless of the challenges you face. I try to encourage my families, students, and friends to be positive, have perseverance, and always give a smile to a new day.

Q. Tell us about your work experience with COI - your career path and what it means to you.

W. I started as a parent and volunteer, then work as a full time Nutrition aid, a substitute, and currently the Family Program Interpreter.

I have been blessed, that I have helped and connected with the children their parents and, most importantly, assisted and facilitated in the communication between teachers and parents. In terms of my career path at COI, it has been extremely rewarding and a fulfilling journey. It has allowed me to partake in the growth and development of our most important human beings " our Children" the future. That is what is most important to me.

Q. What are you looking forward to!

W. I am looking forward to a healthy life and to continue to make difference in people's lives . I am truly thankful for everyone I have met through my 50 years of experiences not years LOL…

Pregunta. ¡Felicitaciones por tu importante cumpleaños! ¿Qué ha hecho para celebrar los 50 años y cómo eso ha incluido a Columbia Opportunities?

Wendy. Como la vida es demasiado corta, yo decidí para la celebración de mi 50 cumpleaños. celebrar durante todo el año, estaré tratando de reunirme con todas aquellas personas que han hecho un impacto y han brindado lecciones de vida en mi vida. Mi plan ha sido reunirme con amigos y familiares para disfrutar aventuras como cruceros, excursiones de un día, una comida, café o té, y tomar selfies para conmemorar la ocasión y agradecerles por ser parte de mi jornada de vida.

Durante 20 años, COI ha sido una gran parte de mi vida. He conocido a personas increíbles que me han enseñado muchas cosas y hemos creado grandes recuerdos y momentos para toda la vida. Estoy verdaderamente bendecida y agradecida por toda mi familia COI. Soy una niña afortunada de haber sido y seguir siendo parte del equipo de COI que marca la diferencia en nuestra comunidad.

P. Tienes una perspectiva tan positiva de la vida. ¿Cómo influye eso en lo que haces por la comunidad?

W. Veo la vida como una bendición y cada día es una nueva oportunidad para aprender y hacerlo mejor, independientemente de los desafíos que enfrente. Trato de alentar a mis familias, estudiantes y amigos a ser positivos, tener perseverancia y siempre sacar una sonrisa al nuevo día.

P. Cuéntenos sobre su experiencia laboral con COI: su trayectoria profesional y lo que significa para usted.

w. Empecé como madre y voluntaria, luego trabajé como ayudante de nutrición a tiempo completo, como sustituta y actualmente como intérprete del programa familiar.

He sido bendecida, he ayudado y conectado con los niños, sus padres y, lo más importante, asistido y facilitado la comunicación entre maestros y padres. En términos de mi trayectoria profesional en COI, ha sido extremadamente gratificante y un viaje gratificante. Me ha permitido participar en el crecimiento y desarrollo de nuestros seres humanos más importantes "nuestros Niños" el futuro. Eso es lo más importante para mí.

P. ¿Qué estás esperando?

W. Espero tener una vida saludable y continuar marcando la diferencia en la vida de las personas. Estoy realmente agradecido por todos los que he conocido a través de mis 50 años de experiencias, no años LOL…
