Head Start Classroom Substitutes

Head Start is a comprehensive child development program for children ages 3 – 5.  Head Start provides social, emotional, health and nutrition services for income-eligible families.  Head Start encourages the role of parents as their child's first and most important teacher and builds relationships with families that support positive parent-child relationships, family well-being, and community connections.


Head Start Classroom Substitutes:  On call positions available in the Chatham, Hudson, Philmont, Valatie, and Taconic Hills classrooms.   Assist the classroom team with children’s activities, planning and record keeping when regular classroom staff are not available.  Must enjoy working with children!  Up to 7 hours per day during the school year.  Training and professional development opportunities are available.   Start your career with Head Start as a Classroom Substitute! 

Qualifications Include:

·      High School Diploma or GED

·      Experience working with preschool age children is desireable.

·      Clean & valid NYS Driver’s License desirable

·      Fluency in English & Spanish is desirable

Following an offer of employment, all Head Start employees are subject to inquiry with the New York State Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment and a New York State Criminal History Check.
