Volunteer

Individuals and groups who are interested in volunteering with Columbia Opportunities are invited to complete a volunteer application.  Once the application has been reviewed, we will contact you for more information and schedule a time to meet.  These are the volunteer opportunities available:

Board of Directors and Board Committee Membership

  • Join our tri-partite board serving as a consumer, public, or private sector member

  • Assist with our Community Assessment and customer satisfaction surveys

Community Services Program

  • ·Assist with monthly or twice monthly Regional Food Bank pickups in Greenport or Latham

  • Organize year-round food and essential item donation drives with your family, friends, employer, church, or civic organization

Family Literacy Program

  • Help with homework

  • Support the Summer Enrichment Program – read books, play games, supervise children, attend field trips

  • These roles require a background check 

Fundraising

  • Event support & promotion

  • Donation collection

  • Admin support

Head Start/Early Head Start

  • Head Start & Early Head Start parent volunteers serve on parent committees, the Head Start Policy Council, and volunteer in classrooms

  • Classroom support – read stories, help with daily routines and special projects (this role requires a background check)

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program

  • Prepare basic income tax returns for people with low & moderate income (free training is provided)

Weatherization Program

  • Clerical & scheduling support
